On August 9, 2021 at approximately 11:15 a.m. the Izard County Sheriff's Office was notified of a plane crash south of the Melbourne Airport. 

Deputies and Melbourne Fire Department personnel arrived to find a single engine plane engulfed in flames with one occupant who was deceased. 

Authorities are still working on the identification and the NTSB has been notified.
