IZARD COUNTY SHERIFF'S REPORT SHERIFF JACK YANCEY

According to Chief Deputy Charley Melton, on May 31 Deputy Toby Smith responded to a call in Dolph in reference to vehicles driving in a reckless manner with the description of the vehicles and names of the drivers. Deputy Smith observed one of the vehicles in question driving in a reckless manner. He stopped the vehicle and Jesse Sanders, age 20 of Calico Rock, immediately exited the vehicle. During the stop, Deputy Smith approached Sanders to place him in hand cuffs. At that time Sanders jerked away and pulled a pistol out of his pants and threw it. As a result of the incident Sanders was charged with DWI 2, minor in possession of alcohol, driving on a suspended driver's license, careless driving, no seat belt, resisting arrest, and fleeing. Sanders is currently under supervision of the Arkansas Community Corrections for previous felony convictions. Sanders awaiting formal charges of a felon in possession of a firearm.  

On May 27, Erica Lee Hellums, age 49 of Ash Flat, was arrested by Sgt. Steve Davidson on a failure to appear warrant on felony drug charges. Hellums is scheduled to appear in the Izard County Circuit Court on June 17.
