STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED
When responding to a compliant June 22 that a vehicle parked on the property of the Wiseman Post Officer was interfering with customers, Izard County deputies discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen from the Ozarka College campus at Ash Flat. Registration information indicated the vehicle was owned by Fredrick Beack of Horseshoe Bend. Izard County Investigator Charles Melton and Ash Flat Police Chief Wiles interviewed a male juvenile who admitted stealing the vehicle. The juvenile said that his mother dropped him off at the college and that she often failed to pick him up after class so he decided to steal the vehicle in order to have a way home. Sheriff Tate Lawrence said the case had been turned over to the Ash Flat Police Department.
Early Thursday morning it was reported that an American Rail train had been blocking Cool Water Retreat Road near Sylamore for several hours. The Izard County Sheriff’s Department and Dennis Williams of the Office of Emergency Services responded to the compliant and contact was made with railroad management in order to get the train moved and the road unblocked. Sheriff Tate Lawrence said that train officials were very uncooperative seemingly unconcerned and that the train was not moved until some five hours after officials had been notified. Sheriff Lawrence said that it was his understanding that a recent appealing court ruling took jurisdiction to enforce such violations away from the states and placed the jurisdiction with the federal government. The sheriff said the case remains under investigation.
Deputy Acy Beebe and Reserve Deputy Richard Williams responded June 23 at approximately 10:00 p.m. to County Road 61 near Zion to a male who appeared intoxicated and was running around only in his underwear. Charles Reed, age 29 of Melbourne was taken to the Izard County Detention Facility on charges of public intoxication-drugs and disorderly conduct. At the detention facility, Reed tested positive for opiates, marijuana, meth, and amphetamines. Reed remains in jail on these charges and has a hold by the Heber Springs Police Department.
Jennifer May Greer, age 34 of Norfork was arrested June 22 on the charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle. According to reports, Greer took a pickup belonging to Lean Smith of the Pineville area and did not bring back the truck as agreed. Greer remains in the Izard County Detention Facility.
Robert Stowers, age 18 of Dolph was arrested June 21 on the charge of criminal mischief first degree. Stowers is accused of breaking out the back glass of a pickup truck occupied by a female acquaintance. Stowers posted bond in the amount of $280 cash and was released with a court date from the Izard County Detention Facility.
