HOUSE FIRE IS SUSPECT

An early Saturday morning house fire reported to Izard County Dispatch appears to be the result of arson. A paper carrier called in a house fire around 4:00 a.m. on Deerfield Street in Melbourne. The Melbourne Fire Department responded, extinguished the inside blaze and reported to the Izard County Sheriff’s Department that the fire appear to be the result of arson. Sheriff Tate Lawrence said that investigators were on the scene until about noon and that there were various hot spots along with various items in the house that would indicate that the fire was intentionally set. Sheriff Lawrence said the inside of the fairly new structure was extensively damaged and that it appears the house was not entered with force. One person of interest has been interviewed and other persons of interest have been identified. Sheriff Lawrence said the owner, Robert Sanchez was out of state at the time of the fire. The investigation is being continued by the Izard County Sheriff’s Department and the Arkansas State Police.

In unrelated activity , the sheriff’s department was called to the Antioch Baptist Church where it was reported that a suspicious vehicle was parked. Upon arrival , deputies observed a small truck with damage to the vehicle. A male, later identified as Charles Be. Bohannan, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant was asleep in the driver’s seat. The driver was unsure of his location and could not tell deputies when the damage occurred to the vehicle. After failing several field sobriety tests, Bohannan was transported to the Izard County Detention Facility where he was given a BAC test which he failed. Sheriff Lawrence said that Bohannan was booked into the izard County Detention Facility on the charge of driving while intoxicated. Bohannan, age 47 later posted bond in the amount of $1,055 and was released.

Following several calls from various people late Thursday night and early Friday morning, Trystin Robert Howell, age 21 of Larkin Road was arrested on the charge of obstructing governmental operations. Howell later posted bond and was released from the Izard County Detention Facility. At the time of his arrest, Howell tested positive for opiates.

A Dolph man was arrested April 5 on drug related charges. Edwin Ben Teegarden, age 38 was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Teegarden posted bond the following day in the amount of $3,730 and was released from the Izard County Detention Facility.

Jeremy John Hands, age 36 of Calico Rock was arrested April 5 on charges of assault on a family member and endangering the welfare of a minor second degree. Hands posted bond Wednesday in the amount of $1,500 and was released from the Izard County Detention Facility.

A Calico Rock man was arrested April 5 on the charge of domestic battering third degree. Donald David Dickey, age 73 of the Gorby Community was released from the Izard County Detention Facility with a date to appear in Izard County District Court.

Another Calico Rock man, Donnie Ray Woodcock, age 29 of the Pleasant Valley Road area was arrested April 6 on a failure to appear warrant. Woodcock posted bond April 8 in the amount of $1015 and was released from the Izard County Detention Facility.

Kimberly Ann Collins, age 38 of Sidney and Joseph Christopher McCoy, age 44 of the same address were both arrested April 5 on the charge of domestic battering third degree. Collins and McCoy each posted bond the following day in the amount of $1,000 and were released from the Izard County Detention Facility.
