HELPING YOUTH MAKE SMART CHOICES

Izard County Consolidated School was the scene for excitement and learning on Thursday, April 1 when students gathered for the school’s annual CARE Summit. The CARE Summit is held annually to provide 5th and 6th graders with information to make healthy lifestyle choices. Throughout the day students heard a series of presenters with information about the dangers of underage drinking, tobacco and drug use, self-esteem, and technology gadgets.
Presenters included members of the Izard County Sheriff’s Department, 16th Judicial Drug Task Force, Izard County Hometown Health Coalition’s Underage Drinking Prevention Program and Tobacco Prevention Program, Army National Guard, and school personnel. High School CHASE members served as youth leaders for the event as part of their Drug Prevention Program.
To kick off Alcohol Awareness Month and Public Health Week, the Izard County Hometown health Coalition, Underage Drinking Prevention Program in partnership with the Izard County Sheriff’s Department provided CARE Summit T-Shirts for all participating students. When asked what they had learned during a session, students reported that the summit has helped them make smart choices as they progress through Middle School toward High School.

Izard County Consolidated School 5th & 6th grade students, CHASE members, and Sheriff Tate Lawrence gather for sessions during the school’s annual CARE Summit.
