The Izard County Sheriff’s Department is currently hosting an Arkansas State University-Mtn. Home student as intern. The student, Shawna Yancey is a sophomore criminal justice major and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Yancey of the J Bar J Community in Izard County. This internship provides the student with hands on exposure to various aspects of law enforcement. Yancey is being involved in the booking procedure into the jail, warrants, patrol., an other functions of the sheriff’s department. Sheriff Tate Lawrence said that he is glad to participate in these type programs and is pleased to see young adults preparing themselves educationally for careers in the criminal justice system whether it be in enforcement, the courts, or corrections. Sheriff Lawrence went on to say that Yancey is a very bright student and enthusiastic about what she is doing.
