The local volunteer fire departments perform a great service to our communities and in doing so protect lives and property. These community oriented volunteers give of their time and effort during all times of the day and night. Sheriff Tate Lawrence said they are certainly to be commended for the valuable service they provide our communities.

One of the things we can do that would greatly help these departments is that of calling the sheriff’s department whenever we intend to do a controlled burn. This will avoid the unnecessary dispatch to fires saving these departments time and money. Very often someone sees a fire and doesn’t realized the fire is a controlled burn and they call the sheriff’s department for the dispatch of fire fighting equipment. If the sheriff’s department was notified in advance that the fire is the result of a controlled burn, then these fire departments would not have the make theses unnecessary fire runs.

Sheriff Lawrence and County Judge Rayburn Finley ask your cooperation in this matter and to notify the sheriff’s department whenever you intend to conduct a controlled burn. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
